Exploring the mission opportunities of new housing

Clergy and others gathered at St Helen’s Church in Worcester for a day on exploring the mission opportunities of new housing developments. Speakers spoke about the process that new developments go through, how churches can get involved and different ways in which churches can come alongside those in new homes and help to build community.

School and Church in Kidderminster achieve joint silver partnership Award

St Catherine’s CE school and St Barnabas Church in Kidderminster have achieved a silver Church and School Partnership Award. Accompanied by representatives from the church, school and Diocese, Bishop Martin and Archdeacon Mark Badger, attended a special school assembly to present this joint award.

Worcestershire Farmers’ Harvest Thanksgiving

Faith at Work in Worcestershire becomes completely volunteer-led

Faith at Work in Worcestershire (FWW) is an independent ecumenical charity which exists to encourage and support local churches in their ministry to those in work. The charity supports around 20 volunteers who offer chaplaincy to local businesses, working particularly in the retail sector and Worcester Livestock Market.

New Halesowen Children and Families Worker helps launch first Messy Church

Former CE primary school teacher Louise Hicklin recently started as Children and Families’ Worker at St John the Baptist Church in Halesowen. Thanks to this appointment and the installation of new toilets, St John’s Church have been able to launch their first Messy Church.

Three new Deacons ordained

Three candidates were ordained as Deacons on Sunday to serve in parishes across the Diocese. They were all part of the Auxiliary Pathway - a training pathway aimed at those who see their vocation as being non-stipendiary (voluntary) ministers to churches in their local area.

Six new Lay Ministers licensed

Six people from parishes across the Diocese were admitted to the office of Reader on Saturday in Worcester Cathedral. The Bishop of Dudley, Martin Gorick, conducted the service, licensing the individuals to minister in the parishes they have been called to serve.

Revd Giles Joiner installed as Team Vicar in Gornal and Sedgley

At All Saints church in Sedgley on Sunday 21st September, Giles Joiner was installed as Team Vicar in the benefice of Gornal and Sedgley by Bishop Anne Hollinghurst. It was a joyful service, designed to offer a warm welcome to Giles and his family.

Celebrating the Halas Team (and some new toilets!)

Each September, the churches in the Halas Team in Halesowen come together for ‘HalasFest’, a joint service which celebrates the whole team and all they are doing in their communities. This year they were joined by Bishop Martin who was able to dedicate a set of new toilets which have recently been built inside the church.

Exploring the partnership between church and school

The latest clergy study day focussed on how churches and schools could be partners in mission. Led by the diocesan Education team, clergy from across the Diocese gathered together to explore how churches can best support our local schools and work together with them.

Why run a Legacy Campaign this autumn?

Our Diocesan Stewardship team are running training courses this autumn for PCCs and churches on how to run a legacy campaign. While it can feel a tricky subject to broach it is vitally important when legacies can make such a difference to churches and the communities they serve.
