Sue Adeney, NSM Minister in St Mary's Hanley Castle with St Gabriel's Hanley Swan and diocesan Eco Church lead, travelled to London this week to lobby her MP. She joined with approximately 5,000 people from across the country whose organisations were asking MPs to ‘act now, change forever’.
Sue said “I was disappointed that my MP did not show up at the location we were allocated, disappointed but not surprised as her record on voting to support environmental bills is poor. That’s one thing I wanted to discuss with her."
Sue then joined a photocall in Parliament Square, where she met crowds of people with banners from many different organisations who are part of the Climate Coalition.
She said: “Many were faith-based but also included the WI, WWF and National Trust. I was delighted to meet Graham Usher, Bishop of Norwich (and former Bishop of Dudley), who is the lead Bishop for the environment.”
Sue visited the Queen Elizabeth Conference centre where many organisations had set up stalls, and a programme of speakers were giving presentations including Caroline Lucas and Canon Giles Goddard. A prayer vigil was also held at the railings to the Houses of Parliament.
"Many people did meet their MP, and I was pleased to see groups of children who had made the journey. It was so encouraging to be with other passionate people who have a care for creation," Sue said.
