Safeguarding Sunday 2023

Published: 16th October 2023

Safeguarding sunday front page of resourcesSafeguarding Sunday takes place on Sunday 19 November this year. You can now register your church to take part and receive a free digital resource pack that will give everything needed to plan and run a service.

According to Thirtyone:eight, last year’s services resulted in:

  • A GREATER positive awareness and understanding of safeguarding among church members.
  • An INCREASE in the number of people feeling able to talk about their abuse for the first time.
  • MORE volunteers coming forward for safeguarding roles and to help with children’s/youth work.
  • An INCREASE in the number of people completing safeguarding training and criminal record checks.
  • the number of Safeguarding Leads feeling supported in their role by the church being BIGGER

What is it all about?

Safeguarding Sunday is a safeguarding awareness raising campaign for churches run by the charity Thirtyone:eight. Each November, thousands of churches from diverse backgrounds and traditions across the UK come together to reflect on their own safeguarding journey, and to highlight and celebrate all the good work that is being done by so many behind the scenes to protect vulnerable people. If the 19th November is not suitable it can be done on another day. The more time dedicated to focus on safeguarding in a service, the greater the impact for the church, so if it has to be on a different day, that’s okay.

Registration is at: Safeguarding Sunday | Thirtyone:eight (thirtyoneeight.org)
