Top Church's Worship Director releases CD

Published: 27th July 2023

CD Artwork for Dave Shaw's CD Shadow of your wingsDave Shaw, the Director of Worship at Top Church in Dudley, has produced a CD of music ahead of helping to lead the music team at the Walsingham Youth Pilgrimage next week.

Dave has been part of the music team on the pilgrimage for many years through his connections to CJM Music and is now moving into more of a leadership role. Over 500 people aged 11 – 18 from all over the UK will attend the pilgrimage where the traditional pilgrimage devotions are presented in an upbeat, lively and enjoyable way, making them relevant for our young people in today’s world.

Dave said: “I grew up in the Catholic Church before becoming an Anglican and I hold a passion for sung worship in a wide array of contexts. The shrine at Walsingham is an incredible place. As soon as you get there you can feel that it’s a place where there have been hundreds of years of prayer. Many of the young people who attend the Walsingham Pilgrimage won’t have experienced worship with a band. The music we play there is very sympathetic to the mass, bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary forms of worship. I have a real heart for showing young people what worship can be like and enabling them to experience their faith in different ways.”Dave Shaw alongside another worship leader playing guitar at Walsingham Pilgrimage

Dave’s album will feature 10 original songs he has written, including ‘May your Kingdom Grow’ which was composed for our diocesan dedicated period of prayer for growth. Many of the songs will be used during the Walsingham pilgrimage.

“I’ve previously been asked by those attending the pilgrimage where they can find the music, so I thought it would be a good idea to record my songs. The album is called ‘Shadow of your Wings’, which is also the title of a track that people have said has really helped them in difficult times. Any copies sold will raise money for Top Church,” said Dave.

This year’s theme of the Walsingham Youth Pilgrimage is Illuminate - Shining as lights in God's world. Find out more about it on the website (www.walsinghamanglican.org.uk/youngpilgrims/the-youth-pilgrimage/)
