The Chase team in Malvern have given away hundreds of ‘Easy to Read’ Bibles in their communities so far this year, to raise awareness of God’s message and the hope that Jesus brings.
Team Rector Dave Bruce came across the ‘Easy to Read’ range of gospels and bibles at a conference he attended in February. These visually eye-catching publications use stunning photography of our natural world, with almost every other page featuring a large photo depicting nature. The bibles are written in an accessible style, and the text summary is split up with headings and a large modern font. The ‘Easy to Read’ Gospel books are quite thin too making them easy to pick up and flick through.
After Dave shared his vision to give these bibles away across their three churches and communities (St Andrew's Malvern, All Saints Malvern Wells & Wyche and St. Mary's Pickersleigh), he was supported by the congregation and enough ‘Easy to Read’ Bibles and Gospels were bought to share at a range of church meetings and events. Church members are also encouraged to distribute them through their own networks.
Team Vicar Emily said:
“It’s been quite incredible the number of people that have wanted to take one. I did a talk at an assembly at the school next door to All Saints church and mentioned that these were available for people to take. It was amazing how many parents came over at the end!”
“While it is hard to know whether there is a direct correlation, we have definitely seen more young parents and young adults under 50 joining church services at all our churches. We’re aware that for some of the young families joining it’s actually the children who have been asking their parents to go to church. It’s just fantastic!”
This range of 'easy to read' bibles are available from various online sellers including St Andrews Bookshop: Easy to Read Bibles
