Chair of our Peru Partnership Group, Phil Bradford, attended the recent consecration of the new Bishop Coadjutor (Assistant Bishop) in the Diocese of Peru.
He writes:
"Recent months have seen significant changes in our partner Diocese of Peru. Back in May, Victor Condori was elected as Bishop Coadjutor in the diocese and on Saturday 30 August, he was consecrated in the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd in Lima. I was present representing the Diocese of Worcester at a joyful but special service, of which I felt privileged to be a part of it.
The service was led by Brian Williams, Bishop of Argentina and Archbishop of South America, assisted by Bishop Jorge of Peru and bishops from most of the South American countries.
In addition to the consecration, two priests and two deacons were ordained, and fourteen lay ministers were commissioned. It was thus a very busy and very lively occasion. Some eighty clergy and eleven bishops made quite a sight lined up for the procession in the street outside the cathedral, causing more than a few passers by some surprise, especially as the gang of bishops couldn’t avoid taking selfies!
Following his consecration, Victor will work alongside Jorge, who remains the Diocesan Bishop, and then succeed as diocesan when Jorge retires in around four years. He will remain in charge of the church of Cristo Redentor in Arequipa until the end of this year, after which he will spend more time in Lima.
Please pray for Victor and his wife Marivel, for the new priests, Simón and Tomas, and for the new deacons, Danny and Jessica, as they begin their new ministries, and for Bishop Jorge as he leads the Diocese of Peru into a new stage of its life."
