This year, the Muddy Boots Mission Area has some very special visitors. The Magi—Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar—along with Drusilla the Camel, set off from Rock Church on Sunday to follow the star in search of the new King. They are hoping for a warm welcome throughout the Muddy Boots Mission Area as they search for this special baby.
So far, the Magi have travelled to Bayton and Mamble and have been warmly welcomed at church services and coffee mornings. They have also visited Little Fishes at Bayton to share their story and hope to meet as many people as possible over the next few weeks.
The Magi were designed and made by Associate Priest Julia Quinn. She said “Our aim is for them to visit as many communities as possible in the mission area between now and Epiphany - schools, coffee mornings, special events, groups as well as church services. The travellers have their own passport for each venue to sign so we can see who they have visited, and this also contains two prayers for parishes to use.”
To help families, schools and churches join in the journey, new Muddy Boots Magi colouring sheets will be released regularly in the run-up to Christmas. As Christmas gets closer, a special pattern will also be available so that people can make their own set of Muddy Boots Magi at home or in church or school groups.
Julia continued: “We would love people to watch out for the Magi and Drusilla the Camel as they travel around the Muddy Boots Mission Area! If you see them, please take a photo and share it on social media using the hashtags #relishingrural and #muddybootsmagi.”
