More lottery support for St John, Brockmoor

St Johns Church in Brockmoor has received agrant for 10,000 from the National Lottery Big Lottery Fund to makeimprovements to the building.

Thanks to National Lottery players, work can goahead to improve toilet facilities at the Grade II listed building, to make itmore accessible and attractive for users from across the community.

It follows repair and conservation work earlierthis year, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, that enabled the church tobe removed from the English Heritage Places of Worship Heritage At Riskregister.

St Johns is a focal point for the localcommunity and is used by community groups, including the Little Badgers toddlergroup, Messy Church and most recently sessions run by the Adult and CommunityLearning service of Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, as well as hostingchoir concerts and parties. It hosts a weekly Place of Welcome every Saturdaymorning for anyone in need of a warm drink and someone to talk to.

Commenting on the award, vicar at St Johns theRevd Simon Archer, said: 

We are delighted with the wonderful news that the BigLottery Fund is supporting these important improvements. Thanks to NationalLottery players, we can make our building more accessible and attractive to a widercircle of users right across our community.

11 children from the Church of the Ascension CE Primary School in Wall Heath, Dudley have achieved the Archbishops’ Young Leaders Award. The children were presented with their certificates by Bishop Martin at a special collective worship in school.
