Many in our community will be familiar with Maggs Day Centre — the Worcestershire-based charity that has been a lifeline for people experiencing homelessness since 1985.
Founded after the tragic death of John Maggs, a homeless man who passed away in a derelict building in Worcester, the charity was born out of compassion and a deep desire to ensure that no one facing homelessness is left unsupported. Since then, Maggs has grown into a vital local service offering warm meals, safe spaces, clean clothing, and life-changing support to some of the most vulnerable people in Worcestershire.
This year, Maggs is marking its 40th anniversary, celebrating four decades of offering hope and dignity to those in need. In 2024 alone, the charity supported more than 700 individuals, through its Day Centres in Worcester and Malvern, outreach and harm reduction teams, and its Clothing Project.
As part of this milestone year, the charity has launched a campaign to raise £40,000 to ensure its services can not only continue but grow. The rising cost of living, a shortage of affordable housing, and increasing mental health needs mean that more people than ever are turning to Maggs for help.
If you’ve ever considered supporting Maggs, this is a meaningful time to do so. Whether it’s through a one-off donation, volunteering, organising a small fundraiser, or even spreading the word, your support can have a real and lasting impact.
The campaign will feature a range of events, starting with a charity netball tournament in Malvern this June, followed by community activities throughout the year.
