Litter picking in Lye

A group of people in hi-vis tabards sanding in front of the church with around 10 purple bin bags of rubbish in front of them.At Lye Church in Greater Dudley Deanery, the first Sunday in Advent didn't just end with them thinking about the prophets, they also supported their community practically with a litter pick!

Between the end of the service and a downpour of rain, an intrepid group from Christ Church - supported by Dudley Council’s Lye Community Team – collected a large amount of litter, tin cans, plastic bottles, and other items that had been discarded around the Lye high street area.

When the rain came down, they were treated afterwards to a warm cup of tea or coffee!

Vicar Glen Ruffle said:

“It was great to be in the open air doing something for the community and displaying that following Jesus means restoring this world. We also built good connections between church, Council and community. A local man saw us working and came over to offer help in dealing with the waste”.

The community litter-picks are open for anyone to get involved with.
