Claines played host to a joyful family ‘Light Trail’ during the half term holiday, which 90 people participated in. Ten households in Claines decorated their homes as “light stops,” each displaying a word that formed part of a Bible verse, for participants to unscramble. Light events celebrate Jesus as the light of the world, as an alternative to Halloween.
Children, Youth and Families Minister Heather Murphy said:
“Families started at Claines Parish Hall, where they received a glow necklace and a map of the trail. The walk took about 45 minutes, and along the way, children unscrambled the words to reveal the verse:
“Jesus said, I am the light of the world.” – John 8:12”
Once they completed the trail, each child received a prize—a Scripture Union book (either What Next? or Jesus is the Light? ), a scratch-art keyring or bookmark.
They ended the evening with hot chocolate and hot dogs in the fairy-lit church hall.
Heather added:
“We had 47 children and young people (aged 0–18) join in and it was a really joyful event!”
