A wide selection of goods has been donated by the congregation of Christ Church Lye at the recent Harvest celebration.
The service on 28 September saw members of the church bring dried and tinned foods, drinks and long-life products, as well as hygiene, toiletries and other personal items, and donate them to the Black Country Food Bank.
In the service, the creation story from Genesis was read and the call was made for Christians to live out their lives as representatives, or diplomats, of Jesus’ kingdom – and that includes caring for God’s creation.
Glen Ruffle, vicar at Lye, said:
“The church in Lye has done a wonderful job in loving our neighbours in the Black Country through this collection. The church of Jesus joins NGOs calling for more recycling and reduced CO2 – but we offer something more: submission to the lordship of Jesus. Only then can hearts be changed and real behavioural change delivered. We pray and work to this end”.
