Halas Parish have made some adjustments recently for one of their Neurodivergent parishioners who is Dyslexic. They have bought a special Dyslexia-friendly bible for her with coloured inlays so she can join the reading rota and share passages from the bible.
The Revd Hazel Charlton said:
“Halas Parish is part of the Inclusive Church Network and being inclusive for all people is one of our core values. One of our church folks, Julieann, when asked to go on the reading rota, mentioned to us that she is Dyslexic and struggles with reading the Bible that we normally use. So as part of our discipleship plans, we bought a bible with a Dyslexia-friendly font and inlays which she can use during our Sunday services.”
“It arrived yesterday, and we showed it to her. With her chosen inlay (blue), she proceeded to immediately read a short passage out to those gathered in our cafe. Tears were shed!”
Julieann said later:
“I am so excited and overwhelmed by this bible and it’s fantastic that the church is being so inclusive. Seeing that people are different is good, but acceptance is even better.”
