Diocese becomes a Bronze Eco-Diocese

Published: 4th May 2023

Bronze eco diocese awardThe Diocese of Worcester has achieved its bronze Eco Diocese award as we continue our journey towards net-zero carbon by 2030.

In order to achieve the diocesan Bronze Award, 5% of our churches need to have achieved at least Bronze, along with the diocesan office itself. In fact, 22 of our churches have achieved their bronze award to date with 17 achieving silver, which is almost 15% of our churches. We also have Climate Crisis group which focusses specifically on this area, helping to keep us on track with our net-zero carbon commitments in line with the Church of England.

Bishop Martin currently Chairs the diocesan Climate Crisis Group. He said: “I’m delighted that we are now a Bronze Eco Diocese and am grateful to all those who have worked hard to help us achieve it. However, we are not stopping here. The diocesan synod has committed to a pathway towards being net-zero Carbon by 2030 and we will be continuing to work on how we can achieve this, encouraging everyone in the Diocese to play their part. As more churches get involved in the Eco Church award scheme and we continue on our journey, hopefully it won’t be too long before we can achieve a Silver Award!”

In order to achieve silver, 30% of our churches need to have achieved at least a bronze award and there is an increasing focus on land and biodiversity. If you would be interested in joining the diocesan Climate Crisis group, please contact Bishop Martin in the first instance.
