30 people from across the Diocese were confirmed by Bishop Martin in the Cathedral on the Feast of Christ the King, with one person also being baptised.
Candidates came from churches in Alvechurch, Bromsgrove, Cradley, Dudley, Franche, Hasbury, Kidderminster, Redditch, Ribbesford and Worcester. They ranged in ages from 10 to 74.
During the ceremony, candidates stated their decision to follow Christ, renouncing evil and repenting of their sins, professed their belief in God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit and then were confirmed by Bishop Martin, who reminded each candidate that they had been called by God before praying for them.
Louise Williams was confirmed alongside her husband Craig. They are both members of St Francis Dudley. She said:
“I always went to Sunday school when I was younger and enjoyed getting to know about Christianity. I have never stopped wanting to know more and throughout my adult life have attended different churches along the years on and off, mostly when I needed guidance. I met my now husband nearly three years ago and very early on we started to attend church together, making lots of friends and learning together the goodness that Christ does and what he represents. Being confirmed is just the next big step in this amazing journey and I know that I will never stop learning about the love that God has for us.”
Shane Readman started attending church in Kidderminster in late 2024 having had connections with St George's in his school days, some 30 years ago. He asked to be baptised in St George's Church because of his earlier connections, and this took place in September. He has become a regular attender.
Congratulations to all who were confirmed.
