Behind the scenes at the Diocesan Office

As part of their curacy, curates undertake one or two placements designed to broaden their experience and deepen their understanding of ministry in diverse contexts. These placements offer a chance to engage with areas they’re passionate about, such as chaplaincies and charities, as well as environments that stretch and challenge them in new ways.

Jayne Parker, Assistant Curate at Pershore w Pinvin, Wick & Birlingham and a Minister in Secular Employment, recently spent several days at the Diocesan Office, gaining insight into the behind-the-scenes work that supports the life of the Church. From safeguarding and education to mission and ministry, Jayne discovered how these teams serve and support parishes, schools, clergy, and lay leaders across the diocese.

Jayne shared:
"I think that the change this placement will make for me, and for any ministry I am involved in, will be to know what it is that the diocesan office can offer. To have made that connection with people, to have made that network, and not be frightened to use the vast knowledge and experience that they have. And I will also be encouraging my colleagues to go and speak and to learn more about the Diocesan Office and what it can offer them."

These placements help curates build relationships, develop practical skills, and see the wider Church in action, preparing them for a rich and varied life in ministry.
