Girafficus in memory of Matthew Baynes12 Oct 2018 By Sam Setchell
Kempsey Primary has purchased 'Girafficus' in memory of Canon Matthew Baynes
Following on from a crowd funding page set up on the Just Giving website to help purchase one of the Worcester Stands Tall giraffes as a tribute to the Revd Canon Matthew Baynes, a staggering £6,630 was raised.
At a very tense auction event in aid of St Richard's Hospice, the Kempsey Primary team managed to have the winning bid for lot number 19 and purchased the amazing Giraffcus, designed by Chris Morgan. Chris's inspiration for Girafficus was Worcester's rich Roman past and the nearby Roman trade route of Ryknild Street.
Tracey Were, one of the fundraisers, said,
"Our newest edition to Kempsey primary is going to take pride of place near the new classrooms which have been built and due to be opened over half term. We are thoroughly delighted with our Giraffe and we have a new Warrior in fitting tribute and in loving memory of Revd Baynes who was a true Warrior"
The Worcester Stands tall auction event raised £210,000.
