St Oswald Place of Welcome celebrates 1st birthday5 Feb 2018
Over 40 people attended the special coffee morning for St. Oswald's Place of Welcome's first birthday.
On 2 February, St Oswald’s ‘Place of welcome’ ‘Coffee Friday’ celebrated its first birthday.
The founder of the coffee morning, Mr Brian Murkett celebrated the success of the coffee morning with around 40 regular attenders from the local community. He announced that although the drinks and biscuits are free, donations have raised over £1,000 in 12 months.One of the regular members, Mr Frank Smith Is a member of the Blind Veterans society and a volunteer from the charity was present to receive a cheque for £500. Frank was then invited to light the birthday cake and blow out the candles.
Vicar of St Oswald's Church, Nigel Taylor, said: "In an area such as Broadwaters where there is little to foster community cohesion, the Friday Coffee Morning has been a real blessing bringing people together and enabling new friendships to develop. This is the ethos of the ‘Places of Welcome’ hospitality network and we're delighted to be a part of it."
