Encouraging wellbeing

Archdeacon MarkArchdeacon Mark leads on wellbeing in the Diocese. He writes:

Leading in Christian ministry can be deeply rewarding and joyful; it can also at times be costly and demanding for ministers and their families.

As a diocese we are continually reflecting on how to improve our approach to clergy and clergy household wellbeing.  As Archdeacon of Worcester, it is my privilege to lead on this most important aspect of ministerial life and I am working with colleagues to put in place a range of practical interventions to help us all live well.

As one part of this process, we are working to make access to information as easy as possible and are currently updating and revising the wellbeing page on the diocesan website. In addition we have produced, and are distributing, a wellbeing pack with resources for information and reflection which we hope clergy will find helpful.

On 29 October we will be running the first of our ‘Retreat with Feet’ wellbeing walks.  This will offer the opportunity for a small group of licensed clergy to simply spend time walking, talking, reflecting and connecting.  The walk will be four to five miles around Hanbury and a pub lunch will be provided. This will be limited to 10 spaces and further details can be found on this Eventbrite page.

Later in the year we will begin a series of ‘wellbeing clinics’ offering the opportunity for licensed ministers to meet with me along with representatives of the HR and Mission and Ministry Teams.  These ‘clinics’ will offer a safe space to discuss issues, concerns and opportunities around wellbeing. Look out for further details coming soon.

If you have any concerns or suggestions around wellbeing, please do not hesitate to contact either me or a member of our HR team
