Mission Enablers

Each of these placements will look very different as the Mission Enabler with the help of others reflects on the local context: the opportunities there are to grow and resource the existing work with Children, Young People and their families; the needs of the present volunteers and then what new areas of engagement could be developed during their year there and into the future. The first three placements are very much ‘pilot’ ones where we will all be learning together how to do this new way of working well.

Meet the team!

Anne Batchelor

Helping St. Michael’s & All Angels,Norton and St. James, Wollaston, plus St. Mary’s, Oldswinford.

I live in Redditch in Worcestershire with Richard my husband. I am blessed to be Mum to Luke, Beth and Megan, and Grandparent to Noah, Rohan, Harry and Lottie.

Richard and I are slowly renovating our terraced cottage and garden. Whenever we can we enjoy escaping to Brixham in Devon for a few days walking and the best fish and chips in the world!

Last year I worked with St. Thomas Church in the centre of Stourbridge, encouraging and supporting them in their outreach and mission with young people and their families; in the summer of 2017 I also started some work with St. Mary’s at Old Swinford.

Since April this year, I am working alongside the benefice of St. Michael’s & All Angels – Norton and St. James – Wollaston, plus continuing with St. Mary’s.

I’m very much enjoying being based in and around Stourbridge and am looking forward to continuing “walking” with churches as they discern and develop mission in their communities.

Emily D'Silva

Helping in the United Benefice of the East Vale and Avon Villages (Cleeve Prior, North & Middle Littleton, South Littleton, Offenham, Badsey, and Bretforton).

I moved to Worcestershire for the role of Mission Enabler in January, having worked in churches in London and Dorset and, most recently, for the Iona Community on the Inner Hebridean island of Iona. Each of these roles have instilled in me a passion for community, welcome, and inclusivity.

I am very much enjoying being a part of the Calling Young Disciples Team. In particular the challenge living out the role of Mission Enabler with the East Vale and Avon Villages, and walking alongside them as they explore how they can best serve the children, young people, and families in the benefice.

Helen Laird

Helping the Gornal and Sedgley Team.

I am excited to be involved in the Calling Young Disciples project.

I have been a children's and youth worker for over ten years, I am looking forward to equipping parishes to work intentionally with the children and young people in their communities.

Having journeyed with Halas since April 2017, in August 2018 I start to walk alongside those in Sedgley & Gornal.

Adam Legge

Helping North Worcester Churches.

I have been a children’s and youth worker for 10 years in Cheltenham having also worked in the leisure industry for 14 years running a swimming pool. I have completed a placement with Kidderminster East and had a great year with five great churches to initiate a parish wide messy church, which became the sixth congregation of the parish. Currently I am placed in North Worcester with three different churches to discover how we can grow young disciples in a contextually relevant way.
