Mission Enablers

Each of these placements will look very different as the Mission Enabler with the help of others reflects on the local context: the opportunities there are to grow and resource the existing work with Children, Young People and their families; the needs of the present volunteers and then what new areas of engagement could be developed during their year there and into the future. The first three placements are very much ‘pilot’ ones where we will all be learning together how to do this new way of working well.

Meet the team!

Helen Laird

Helping the teams of Halas and Gornal and Sedgley, St Wulstans & Malvern Link with Cowleigh

I live in Worcester, married to husband Jamie and we have two grown up children who both live in London, and we have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel called Tilly, who takes us on nice long walks.

Before working with Worcester Diocese, I was a children's and youth worker for over ten years.  I am enjoying being a part of the Calling Young Disciples project, which encourages churches to work intentionally with the children and young people in their communities; this has enabled me to work alongside some wonderfully gifted people within the diocese, with whom I have worked on some great new projects, like Halas High 5’s, Brick Church, Teddy Bear Picnics  and setting up new Open the Book Teams, as part of the project I have also headed up the Baptism Books resource.

Amy Stokes

Helping the Dudley team of churches, and working actively with Lye, and the Listening Service in both Bromsgrove and Redditch

I have worked as a professional youth worker for 11 years in both church settings and also in the education and charity sectors. As a Mission Enabler I have worked with the parishes of Bromsgrove, Lye, Dudley, Cradley Heath and Redditch. I am particularly passionate about children, young people and families who struggle to engage with traditional worship- find their own space to relate to what the church stands for and has to offer. The most fulfilling part of my role is seeing both clergy and lay leaders recognise and embrace their crucial roles in reaching their community for the gospel and seeing the energy, confidence and joy that emerges as a result
