The work of the Diocese:

Welcome...

...to the Diocese of Worcester where we believe that the church exists to serve those who are not - or not yet - its members. Perhaps it is this commitment to serve all God's people that explains why this Diocese is one of the few dioceses which has been consistently growing in church attendance in recent years.

The Diocese of Worcester covers an area of 671 square miles and includes the County of Worcestershire, the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley, and a few parishes in northern Gloucestershire, south east Wolverhampton and Sandwell - so we are not short on variety. It is a wonderful part of the world: a few years ago I served as a parish priest in the heart of inner city Tyneside, an area famed for the warmth of its people and I experienced a similar warmth here as soon as I arrived earlier this year.

Bishop John Inge

I have already been able to visit a large number of people and places around the diocese and have been struck by the good work going on in so many areas of mission and ministry. I think for example, of the striking ecumenical service to the community provided by the churches of Malvern or the Black Country Urban Industrial Mission. From the urban north, with its impressive history and cultural mix, to the agricultural south where the rich colours of rural life flavour many people's day to day experience, the Diocese has much to offer to visitor, resident and worshipper alike.

As a Diocese we are committed to mission in every aspect, seeking to bring the good news of God's love in Jesus to all who live in the cities, towns and villages, and to make the gospel relevant to their working lives.

I commend the Diocese of Worcester to you, with its magnificent Cathedral in Worcester and beautiful, varied and vibrant parish churches. I hope that you will pay us a visit to share in God's creation at its most beautiful and diverse.

May God bless you richly.

+John
