The Revd David Morris fundraises for Abberley Care Farm

Published: 12th April 2024

The Revd David MorrisOn 23 June, the Revd David Morris will be riding the Dartmoor Classic Sportive to raise funds for Abberley Care Farm.

The Dartmoor Classic Sportive is a cycling race over 68 miles (110km) with an elevation gain of 5,600ft, including one hill with a 20% (1 in 5) gradient! As Priest in Charge of Shrawley & Witley w Astley & Abberley and Teme Valley North, Abberley Care Farm is within his benefices. They say about themselves:

“Abberley Care Farm is a small alternative provision for children who struggle to cope in school by providing therapeutic animal assisted interventions. Many of our children have faced trauma or loss, have special educational needs, many are Autistic and struggle with the social demands of the wider world. The children attend the farm to learn life skills, how to care for animals, participate in art and crafts, learn land based skills and they also run the community pop-up teashop in St Mary’s Church, Abberley.  All of these activities help our children feel a part of the care farm family which helps them to develop self-confidence and be a part of something special for as long as they need it, often well after they have left school.

“David has kindly offered to raise funds for the children and after lots of discussion we have concluded that we could help our children even more by supporting them to enjoy some special social activities and give them the opportunity to have fun with their friends in a safe environment supported by the staff they trust in addition to their normal farm day.  The children have lots of ideas maybe a trip to the seaside, the cinema, or a BBQ and party at the farm…”

Any money raised for the Care Farm will go directly towards funding those special social things which cannot be covered via normal means. If you would like to support David, visit his Justgiving page.
