Celebrating the history of Hollybush Church

Published: 18th May 2023

Hollybush ChurchA forthcoming exhibition will explore the history of All Saints Church, Hollybush, which sits on the southern edge of the Malvern Hills and offers breath-taking views across the Vale of Evesham.

Taking place inside the church (postcode HR8 1ET) on Saturday 27 May from 10am to 5pm, the free one-day exhibition will feature photographs, memorabilia and information about Hollybush’s 150-year history – including its flower festivals, fetes and local faces past and present. Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available.

The exhibition is being organised by local history group the BCH Archive, which comprises four friends nicknamed 'The History Girls’. The group researches and documents the history of Birtsmorton, Hollybush and Castlemorton – three villages at the southern end of the Malvern Hills – and has produced several books and exhibitions during the past decade.

Members of the public are encouraged to contribute any information or stories about Hollybush Church and the surrounding area. “On the day we would welcome any photographs or memories that people can share with us,” says group member Amanda Simons. “We’re also hoping visitors will be able to help us identify some faces from the past.”

All Saints Church was built in 1869 as a ‘chapel of ease’ for the local community and quarry workers employed on the Malvern Hills at Hollybush. As well as presenting fascinating history about the church building, the exhibition will include information about the churchyard and its graves, the Church Room and the wider Hollybush community.
