Our diocesan office has achieved a Silver Eco Award, recognised by A Rocha.
The award was achieved through a number of different initiatives.
Although our office doesn't have any outdoor space, we've made the most of our balcony by planting tomatoes and basil, which Bishop Hugh came to bless. We've also marked Earth Day with a collection for environmental charities, taken part in a nature walk with worship, installed a bird box, expanded our recycling options and hosted a series of Lunchtime Learning sessions exploring climate crisis-related topics with our Net Zero Project Manager, Lee Westcott.
A Rocha's Eco Diocese Officer said: We loved reading about the following initiatives:
- Outdoor 'walking in nature worship' led by office based clergy
- Engaging with your landlord to seek to influence action
- Office team planting of tomatoes and basil (and the Bishop of Worcester blessing them!)
- Prioritising transport needs through car sharing, bicycle storage etc.
- Lunch and learn sessions on various environmental matters
- Celebrations and fundraising in relation to Earth Day etc.
- Waste reduction through purchasing second hand office furniture and using freecycle to dispose of old furniture
Gaining a Silver Eco Award for the diocesan office is another step towards achieving a silver Eco Diocese Award.
