This year, Volunteers' Week runs from 1 to 7 June.
All around us, often unnoticed, volunteers are quietly holding the world together. They open doors, make tea, stack chairs, run clubs, lead prayers, coach teams, visit the lonely, organise events, raise funds, tidy spaces, and offer a thousand small acts of kindness that keep communities alive.
They don’t always wear uniforms or receive applause, but they are the backbone of so much that happens in churches and our wider communities. When others arrive and feel welcomed, when a service runs smoothly, when help reaches those in need - it is often because someone gave their time freely.
Volunteering is more than helping out. It is offering the gifts God has placed in each of us: patience, practical skills, compassion, creativity, leadership, listening, encouragement, and faith. Every act of service, whether seen or unseen, becomes a ministry when it is offered in love.
We give thanks for all those who volunteer in our churches.
