Please pray for Peru

In our partner Diocese of Peru, Bishop Jorge has particularly asked for our prayers for the country at a time of national crisis.

The Coronavirus pandemic has had a serious impact in Peru. Hospitals have been overwhelmed and there have been many deaths. A serious recession has left large numbers unemployed and struggling. Church services have been suspended since March and will only resume on 15 November. With no income, the Anglican Church has not been able to pay the clergy and severe lockdown has made it hard to provide pastoral support.

On 9 November, Congress impeached President Martín Vizcarra and replaced him with the president of Congress. This is widely viewed as a political move by deputies unhappy with his constitutional reforms and successful anti-corruption measures. As a result, there have been protests and police in Lima have used tear gas. Such political divisions and uncertainty are catastrophic in a country trying to deal with the grave repercussions of a global pandemic. People are naturally angry, worried and frightened.

Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Peru in these challenging circumstances, especially for the Anglican Church as it seeks to provide hope and support in a time of crisis.
