Bishop John on his bike

This year for the first time there will be a Cathedral Cycling Relay starting on 30 May in national cycling week. The starting leg is from Newcastle to Durham Cathedral and there is to be a leg cycled each day for 42 days around the 42 English cathedrals.

There will be a leg from Hereford to Worcester on 1 July (day 33) and the leg leaving from Worcester to Coventry on 2 July (leg 34). Cyclists can complete just one leg of the relay or as many as they want to.

Worcester Cathedral’s Cycling champion Susan MacLeod is gathering the names of keen cyclists who are interested to take part to or from Worcester, she said:

“We are aiming to have up to 20 people cycle between each cathedral, Bishop John has kindly agreed and we would love to hear from anyone else who feels confident to cycle the distance. We look forward to greeting the cyclists over the two day challenge, but hope that this will be the start of us welcoming more cyclists of all abilities to the Cathedral going forward. We will have our new cycle racks installed and at the ready!”.

There is no charge to take part in the Cathedral Cycle Relay, but those doing so are asked to register on Eventbrite. It could be a great opportunity to raise money for a charity of your choice.  https://www.cyclinguk.org/cathedrals-cycle-route-challenge.
