Both Worcester Cathedral and Severnside Covid Support (led by St Mary’s Kempsey) have been awarded grant funding from the Worcestershire Community Foundation Covid-19 Response Fund.

The fund was set up to help voluntary groups across the county deal with the unprecedented effects of the pandemic.  It is prioritising groups supporting individuals who are most affected by the outbreak, particularly those facing issues brought about by isolation or loss of income.

The Cathedral has received £5,000 to improve its video and editing equipment to continue to deliver its live-streamed services, together with new facilities making tours safe and accessible at such a time when visitors can be welcomed once again and to create a new virtual tour for people to access on line.  Canon Dr Stephen Edwards said: “Over the past three months we have seen our online viewing numbers increase greatly, bringing the Cathedral’s heritage, community and inspiration to more and more people. We know that this virtual connection is making a real difference to people who are isolated or seeking connection to this important place.”
