A new name for Worcestershire Organists Association

West Mercia Friends of the Organ logoWorcestershire Organists Association now covers the three counties of West Mercia – Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire and has become the West Mercia Friends of the Organ.

Founded as Worcestershire Organists Association (WOA) in 1964, but with long-standing members also from Herefordshire and Shropshire, WOA formally expanded during the autumn of 2025 and has taken in Herefordshire Organists Society following their dissolution, and with the full support of the Incorporated Association of Organists now covers the three counties of West Mercia – Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire.

Alongside this, the change of name to “Friends of” signified that the group was also open to and of wider interest to those members of the public interested in organs and organ music, a change supported strongly by IAO and in line with the thinking of other similar international groups such as Les Amis de l’Orgue in France.

So WOA has now become WMFO (West Mercia Friends of the Organ (www.wmfo.org.uk) and new members are welcomed.

The webiste also lists details of members who have expressed their willingness and capability to act as deputy organists. Find this list here.
