Helen Archer-Smith has been appointed as the new Director of Finance for the Diocese of Worcester.In this role, Helen will lead the finance team responsible for looking after and accounting for the finances of the Diocesan Board of Finance as well as a large number of trust funds, including parochial trusts on behalf of parishes across Worcestershire and Dudley. Helen replaces Stephen Lindner, who is retiring after 25 years in the role.

Helen is currently Senior Bursar of the West Cavendish group of schools, and Bursar at Bredon School. Prior to this role, she was a senior Audit Manager in the not-for-profit sector.Helen is also Treasurer of Pershore Abbey.

Helen said: “Becoming the Director of Finance for the Diocese of Worcester is both an honour and a privilege. I will be joining the Diocese at a very challenging time but I believe that God has given me the skills and experience to be able to serve Him effectively and support all those within the Diocese. I look forward to getting to know the staff, trustees and parishes and hope to be as loyal a servant as Stephen Linder was."

Diocesan Secretary, Dr John Preston said: “I’m delighted that Helen is joining the Diocese at a time when we are facing some considerable financial challenges. Her experience and skills will be invaluable in helping us navigate these challenges whilst exercising wise stewardship of our resources. As a parish treasurer, Helen also brings an understanding of the challenges faced by parishes.”

Helen will join the team on Monday 17 June. She lives in Pershore and attends the Baptist Church in the town. In her spare time Helen enjoys exploring National Trust properties with her family. When her three young daughters are not keeping her busy she likes to relax by doing cross stitch.
