There have been some changes in the Finance Team at the diocesan office over recent months, which now comprises of Stephen, Debra, Thelma and Jo, with Liz Yapp also working alongside the team to process parish finance returns.

Stephen LindnerStephen Lindner is a familiar face, having worked at the Diocese for almost 25 years. As Assistant Diocesan Secretary (Finance), Stephen leads the team and works closely with the Diocesan Secretary and Chair of the Diocesan Board of Finance to put together the diocesan budget for discussion at Bishop’s Council and Diocesan Synod. He also takes the lead in producing management and statutory accounts for the DBF and all the Diocesan Trusts.

Stephen qualified as a Chartered Accountant before managing the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra for 18 years. He returned to the UK as a Lay Clerk in the Worcester Cathedral Choir in 1992. Part of his role managing the diocesan finances is to support the work of the Investment and Glebe Committee. He also provides training and support for treasurers.

Debra Fox is our Assistant Accountant and started full time in the diocesan office in July, taking over Marion Tunwell’s work following her retirement, in addition to other responsibilities. Debra trained as an Accountant, spending 11 years in practice before becoming the Finance Director of a horticultural company in Ledbury. Debra is also Treasurer of Defford Cum Besford parish in Pershore deanery so is well aware of the issues parish treasurers face!

Debra administers the Diocesan Board of Finance payroll and the Church Schools Fund and can answer queries relating to Trusts held within parish accounts. She is the Diocesan Office contact point for the parish buying facility and provides support for treasurers in a range of other ways. Debra is also happy to talk to parishes about their annual finance returns as well as their annual accounts as these are all collated by Debra.

Jo Burr is Accounts Clerk in the team and started in the diocesan office in May. She works alongside Senior Accounts Clerk, Thelma Milliken, who has been in post since July 2002. Both Jo and Thelma work four days a week, with Jo dealing with income and Thelma with payments. Jo can help parishes if they have questions about parish share or parochial fees. Thelma can assist parishes in vacancy to claim reimbursement of expenses.

All the members of the finance team are keen to support parishes with any issues surrounding money and can be contacted at the diocesan office.
