A Season of Invitation

Formerly known as Back to Church Sunday, this initiative has expanded from one invitational service to five

A Season of Invitation began as ‘Back to Church Sunday’ in 2004, which was an annual opportunity for churches across the UK and abroad to invite people to come with them to church.

Ten years on, the project has grown, moving from one invitational service to five:

  • Back to Church Sunday (September)
  • Harvest (October)
  • Remembrance (November)
  • Christmas Starts (early December)
  • Christmas (December)

Research has shown that people are much more likely to come to church and keep coming if they’re invited several times.

The Church of England has set up the Season of Invitation website to support churches with resources and training.

How has it worked in our Diocese?
