The work of the Diocese:

Social and Economic Engagement

Christians bring their passion to the world, not just to church. We live in the real world, with all its great beauty and possibilities, but also with its imperfections: inequality, injustice, pain and challenge. This was also the world that Jesus Christ entered and as Christians we are called to become engaged in it.

Church Action Within Society (CAWS) is the group through which the diocese focuses its engagement with social, economic and rural affairs. Each deanery can elect a member to the group.

CAWS is supported by the Social Responsibility Officer who is available to work with parishes and groups to help them to reflect on and engage with social and political issues and to develop projects and partnerships

CAWS membership includes representatives from three specialist teams

Two teams who specialise in exploring God in the world of economics and   work:

The Black Country Urban and Industrial Mission (BCUIM)
Faith at Work in Worcestershire (FWW)
A team working with farmers and other people engaged in the rural economy:
The Chaplaincy to Agricultural and Rural Life (CARL)
