A Church School, undergoing an OFSTED (section 10) inspection must, within eight weeks, also undergo a SIAS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools) section 48 inspection. In the case of a Voluntary Controlled school this will involve an inspection of the collective worship, the Christian character of the school and its leadership management.  In the case of a Voluntary Aided school the RE will also be inspected.

Responsibility for ensuring that this inspection takes place and for selecting an inspector to carry it out, rests ultimately with the governors of the school.  The Department for Children, Youth and Education is able to provide schools with a list of SIAS inspectors. We are also able to offer pre- and post- inspection advice and support.
