Mencap Chaplain/People with Learning Disabilities

The reverend Canon Hazel Hughes

The role of the MENCAP Chaplain, the Revd Canon Hazel Hughes, is to support and encourage individuals with moderate and severe learning disabilities - their families and staff at the Day Opportunity Units and Special Schools, as the individuals are encouraged to live life to the full.

The Chaplain is able to stand alongside them in their joys and sorrows and challenge / question the authorities, when the occasion demands.

It is an enormous privilege to share with others the major milestones in life, the first job, the first experience of independent living. Another important role is that of nurturing faith (whatever denomination or none). This spiritual dimension enables people to have a full place within the life of the Church. Not until all humanity is represented round the altar will the Church be whole.

To contact the Chaplain please leave a message with reception at the diocesan office on 01905 20537.
