Background
The Poltergeist is quite common and has been recorded for many hundreds of years. It is only recently, when psychologists have discovered much more about the working of the unconscious mind, that the reasons for its effects have been examined. Many people through the ages have suffered as you may be from the scary and mischievous effects of the Poltergeist.
Nature
It is NOT a spirit, evil or otherwise, nor a ghost, a fairy or anything with a separate life of its own, and cannot be "exorcised". It is attached to, and part of, the unconscious mind of the human owner or a group of human owners who are quite unconscious of the fact and are as frightened as anyone else by its manifestations. The "owner" has no control over it and is unaware of the ownership.
It appears to be the product of emotional energy, programmed by the deep unconscious mind of the "owner" who is under certain psychological stresses, e.g. pressure of business, puberty, unhappy personal relationships, menopause, bad housing, insecurity and so forth. The owner suppresses worries into the deep unconscious mind and it breaks out as the "Poltergeist", making everyone else suffer also, or drawing attention to the place where the owner is. It is really a sort of cry for help and may be an alternative to mental breakdown.
The Poltergeist effect feeds on the fear which it produces. A vicious circle is created as the initial disturbance causes an atmosphere of dread, and the consequent panic feeds the Poltergeist to produce still more alarming affects. The Poltergeist is in itself neither good nor evil, being merely a form of energy released. It is harmless to soul, and body, and in its way a relief to a suffering mind, but its effects are evil in so far as they lead people into a state of terrible fear.
How best to cope
Once the pressures which have produced the Poltergeist are understood and faced, the Poltergeist will die out. The "owner" is in no sense to be blamed, but if identified should be gently encouraged to examine the situation and face up to the pressures. The atmosphere of dread will then be dispersed and the Poltergeist treated as what it is - a nuisance but not an enemy - an amused contempt will cause its fading.
Amongst Christians the knowledge that the Poltergeist is produced by unhappiness or fear would be an occasion for prayer for the sufferer. Where premises have been affected, a ritual blessing will greatly help to lay the atmosphere of strain and dread and to remove any other psychic disturbances triggered off by the original Poltergeist.
In brief
The "Poltergeist effect" is like the behaviour of an upset or mischievous child and once recognised for what it is, should fade out after one or two more efforts to frighten you. If problems persist or return then a counselling assessment to uncover the sources of stress would be the best way forward.
