Taking it Further - Gap Years

Gap Years

…are for anyone looking to take a year out.

Perhaps you’ve just finished a phase of education, or are about to go. Or maybe you've been working and want to change your focus. Either way, this could be the answer to exploring a sense of vocation which involves your faithfulness to God.

Gap schemes are usually aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 25. They provide a chance to work throughout UK and overseas, with some schemes offering a combination of both. Opportunities also exist for people of all ages to volunteer during career breaks.

You will need to do some research to discover which GAP year schemes might suit you and entry is often quite competitive. But this shouldn't deter you from considering an experience that may shape the rest of your life. There are a number of excellent sponsors of GAP years including Christian Aid, Missionary Societies such as USPG & CMS, and Careforce. This list is just a starter and if you want more advice please contact the Vocations Officer.

Remember…you need to be up for some hard work….to get out there and meet new people….have creativity…lots of energy and a willingness to have a laugh. If all this is appealing…go for it!
