I started as the new Diocesan Children’s Officer in
March 2009. My husband Chris and I have received a very warm welcome from
everyone and found a lovely house in the Warndon
villages close to the hospital.
For the
last eight years I have been a Children and Youth worker for two
different Dioceses, London and Winchester. I
started my career in the London Diocese and was there for two years
before moving on to the Winchester Diocese where I remained for four
years. I then moved back to the London Diocese before coming here.
During my time
as a children’s and youth worker I ran children’s after
school clubs, did Messy Church activities, ran youth clubs and discussion
groups for them, planned and organised a youth
service and an alternative Sunday morning children’s service once a
month. I organised, planned and resourced
Sunday morning activities for the children and youth, planned and
ran big projects which included week long holiday bible clubs, Fun days,
40 days of purpose programme for children and
youth, Praise parties, Youth to Uganda visit, fund raising events which
included an auction of promises, youth big band event and much more. I
also planned raising awareness events, where the children and youth got
involved for a six week Stop the Traffik programme. In all the churches I have been involved
with, I have supported, trained and resourced many volunteer team members
and valued their input in all I did. I have written my own summer club programmes, Sunday morning activities, and baptism
and confirmation course material. In all the parishes I have been
involved with I have taken assemblies, planned and run RE and PHSE
lessons, organised lunch time clubs, and helped
lead inset training days in all the local primary and secondary schools,
I have also planned, organised and run
parenting courses and groups in each area. I love using a varied amount
of resources to bring the gospel to children. For example, I like
to use puppets, lively and meditative worship songs—which can use
signing as actions for the songs— and also magic tricks to get the
message across in a vibrant way. I hope to bring all of this experience
to my work here in Worcester
and look forward to meeting everyone and hearing about all that is going
on with the children’s work in the diocese.
When I am not working with children, I spend my time baking
cakes for home and decorating cakes for weddings etc… I love
working in the garden, singing and sewing. Together with my husband I
love to play on the Wii and SingStar
and we also enjoy walking.
