for a world of difference

The Board of Education

Kidderminster representative - Ann Capell

Education seemed a natural career choice when I qualified as a teacher in 1968.  In addition to an abiding interest in the development and wellbeing of young people, a love of Literature was at the heart of my teaching in Secondary schools in Birmingham and Dudley.  An important element in my early experience was the teaching of pupils from many different ethnic backgrounds. After spells running English Departments I became Deputy Head Teacher of a large secondary school in Dudley.  My time as Deputy Head covered a period of huge change in the education system and consequently the work of the staff and managers.

Since ‘retiring’ from full time teaching I have been a member of the DBE representing the Kidderminster Deanery.  As well as working in a voluntary capacity I have also been employed by the Board, helping with interviews, projects and training in the Diocese’s schools. I was also enthusiastically involved with the Anne Frank Exhibition in Dudley.  I am now a SIAS inspector and have completed several inspections in Primary and Middle schools in Worcester, an enormous privilege to work alongside those providing education within a Christian context.   In May 2009 I became a lay-canon at Worcester Cathedral.  As a member of Chapter, I work alongside the Dean and Residentiary Canons overseeing all aspects of the life of the Cathedral; hugely fascinating and an immense privilege.

I worship at St Anne’s Church in Bewdley where I sing in the choir.
