Thought for the Week (21/02/2012)
Take something on for Lent
As we enter a season of Lent, it is a time for reflection, self-examination and change, in preparation for Easter.
Many people - Church and nay - will have decided what to give up. But I'd like to suggest that you give up giving up things and, instead, take something on. You may be thinking, "What a cop out!", but I think that's too quick. Read on, please.
Take another long look inside and remember some of your positive intentions, especially those that are re-creative and give you joy. Of what would you like to do more, if only you had the time?
You could read novels; go to concerts, films, plays; join a choir; walk the hills; take your loved one(s) out for a meal; do something sponsored for your favourite charity; re-establish contact with an old friend; take proper lunch breaks instead of eating at your desk; or simply allow yourself to be still and delight in others as you watch the world go by.
Remember (or hear for the first time), you are utterly loved, as you are. There is nothing you can do to make God love you more or less. So stop trying so hard. Let God be God - the one in whom you live and move and have your being. Enjoy!
