Mission Development Officer & Director of Reader Training
As Mission Development Officer my two main areas of work are:
- Encouraging and helping parishes to see how they can best grow, develop and make the most of their resources.
- Enabling the church at all levels to engage with the key community and social needs of the day, and develop supportive partnerships with other organisations of all faiths and none, especially those who are seeking to promote the same values we are of love, kindness, justice and compassion.
As Director of Reader Training I work in partnership with The Queen’s Foundation, Birmingham to see our Licensed Lay Ministers are trained and cared for in the two years between the church’s discernment of their vocation and their admission by the Bishop to the Office of Reader (a traditional term for our lay preachers and ministers.)
I am new to the role of Mission Development Officer having been a parish priest for the preceding 25 years. I am enthusiastic about enabling adult learning, especially in biblical studies, but also as a sideline in using IT to communicate well.
Ironically, while I usually do quite well putting theological ideas into everyday English, I have been known to sound incomprehensibly geeky when discussing Powerpoint, Photoshop, fonts and DTP software.
I enjoy photography, reading, cinema, and a fine single malt, as well as the company of friends.
