Sheila Banyard - Warden of Readers

Main responsibilities

Working with ministers across the diocese and co-ordinating the team of people who support and resource licensed lay ministry (Reader ministry), including nurturing vocations, training, pastoral care, on-going learning and development, and encouraging collaborative working amongst everyone involved in the church’s ministry.

About me

I have been involved in supporting licensed lay ministry in the diocese for several years, becoming Warden of Readers in 2003. When I’m not engaged in this role I am a full-time rural dean - or ‘free-range’ rural dean, as my colleagues say – in Droitwich deanery.

I love walking (the Shropshire hills and the Peak District are favourite locations) and art galleries. I’m a family history enthusiast and I have also recently taken up botanical illustration.

When it comes to holidays I have a long-term love affair with the Greek islands, which are great places for walking too.
