Taize Monk Comes to Worcester

St. Helen's Church, 12 November, 7-9pm

(30/10/2008)

30 October 2008

Young people across the Diocese will have the opportunity to meet with a member of the Taizé Community* on Wednesday 12 November at St. Helen's Church in Worcester. Originally from Gloucestershire, Brother Paolo has been a member of the international monastic community in Burgundy, France for thirty years. The evening will give people a chance to hear about the community and the many young people who join with the brothers every summer.

The evening has been organised by Diocesan Youth Officer Sarah Brush. She said: "Anyone between the ages of 16 and 29 is welcome to join us for an evening of prayer, song, food and conversation in the style of the Taizé Community. Brother Paolo will describe his life in Taizé and answer questions from young people. It should be an interesting and inspiring evening."

Sarah is planning to take a group of young people out to the Taizé Community next summer and the evening with Brother Paolo will be an opportunity to find out more about the monastic community and what visitors can expect to find. There will also be more details available about next year's trip.

If you would be interested in finding out more, please contact Sarah on 01905 732825 or email sbrush@cofe-worcester.org.uk.

* The Taizé Community is made up of over a hundred brothers, Catholics and from various Protestant backgrounds, coming from around thirty nations. The community wants its life to be a sign of reconciliation between divided Christians and between separated peoples. The brothers of the community live solely by their work. They do not accept donations. In the same way, they do not accept personal inheritances for themselves; the community gives them to the very poor. In many places across the world, ecumenical prayers using music from Taizé are organised by people, young and old, who have been in touch with the community
