Families share favourite recipes
To celebrate National Interfaith week in Worcester, the Saffron Children's centre on Stanley Road, Worcester, will be hosting a "Cultures and Cookery" morning from 10am to 1pm on Thursday 25 November. Local families are invited to bring their favourite recipes and show their neighbours how to cook them. Already planned are Portuguese apple dumplings, French crepes, North Indian samosas, English scones and Brazilian cup cakes!
"There can be no better way of getting to know your neighbour than eating with them! This is how lasting friendships are made" said the Revd Duncan Ballard, one of the organisers. After the morning parents will be asked to help with a wallchart that will give details of what foods and drinks are permitted by the various faiths of Worcester. This wallchart will then be sent out to schools and preschools in the county.
The morning takes place on Thursday 25th November from 10am to 1pm, at the Saffron Children's Centre, Stanley Road, Worcester, WR5 1BD, tel 01905 767107. Although there is no cost to the morning, booking is advisable, especially if you would like to use the crèche facilities.
National ‘Interfaith Week' will run from 21 to 26 November with a launch the preceding week. It's aims are:
• to strengthen good inter faith relations at all levels;
• to increase awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in the UK, in particular celebrating and building on the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society; and
• to increase understanding between people of religious and non-religious belief.
There are a number of events in Worcestershire to mark the week, including a national conference at the University on charitable giving in Christianity and Islam', "Singing for Peace" - an Interfaith choir formed by the primary schools of the city, story telling from other faiths at Worcester City Library and special school assemblies throughout the county.
