The Revd Sarah Fenby has been appointed as the new Vocations and Training Officer, working alongside John Fitzmaurice in the Ministry and Discipleship Team at the Diocesan Office.

Sarah comes to Worcester from the Diocese of Gloucester where she is currently incumbent of Lydney and the United Parish of Woolaston, Alvington and Aylburton. There will be three different strands to her role. She will work as Associate Diocesan Director of Ordinands, helping those who are exploring a call to ordination; take over responsibility for the Ministerial Experience Scheme which started in September and help to facilitate training for both clergy and laity.

Sarah said: “During 17 years of ministry since ordination I’ve consistently enjoyed spotting gifts in other people and helping them to explore their own vocation. The Church’s greatest asset is its diverse people and part of being an incumbent is releasing and enabling the gifts of others. I had a real sense that God was calling me to focus more on this area of ministry and feel like the Vocations and Training Officer role is a perfect fit with both my experience and passions.”

“I am looking forward to exploring all of the Diocese as well as working with John Fitzmaurice and Jonathan Kimber. I am particularly excited by the prospects of the new Ministerial Experience Scheme and the opportunity it gives young people to gain a year of experience before they decide whether to go forward to ordination.”

Sarah is married to Nick and they have two teenage children, Sophia and Nathan. In her spare time, she is currently enjoying a blended MA in Adult Learning and is a keen tennis player. She will start as Vocations and Training Officer at the end of February.
