Young Chorister of the Year Finalist, Lexie Stobie, will sing on BBC Songs of Praise on Sunday 24 June. Lexie lives in Worcester and attends All Saints Church – she will sing her own song, ‘We need you’ from the Album ‘Is it time’. Lexie’s part in the show was recorded as a music video at Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire at the end of May. The sixteen year old has been singing and playing the guitar since 2004, she has entered the BBC’s Young Chorister of the Year competition for the past two years and last year was in the final, competing against three other girl choristers. The Producer of Songs of Praise heard Lexie when one of the songs she sang in the competition was featured on Pick of the Week on BBC Radio 4. As a result he invited her to be part of the programme. Lexie said: “It is a real privilege to be asked to take part in Songs of Praise and I really enjoyed the experience. Lacock Abbey is a beautiful setting and the whole team made me feel comfortable while we filmed a number of different settings for the song. It was great fun and I hope that I’ll have the opportunity to record a couple more of my songs for the programme later in the year.” Lexie is sixteen and is currently studying English Language, Sociology, Health and Social Care and Music Technology at Worcester Sixth Form College. Alongside her TV appearance she is performing at a number of concerts including outreach event at Citifaith Church in Swindon where 400 guests are expected. ENDS The Diocese of Worcester is one of 44 dioceses in the Church of England. It covers an area of 671 square miles and includes parishes in the County of Worcestershire, the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley, and a few parishes in northern Gloucestershire, south east Wolverhampton and Sandwell. |
