On Monday 18 May at 7pm, church members from across Worcestershire and Dudley will be visiting Yew Tree Farm in Frankley to better understand where our food comes from and the challenges and needs of those farmers who provide it. The visit coincides with Rogation, which is a time for asking God to bless the land for the coming growing season, when the crops are just starting to come through and the livestock are turned back out into pasture after the winter. Parishioners will walk around Yew Tree Farm finding out more about what happens in each area and stopping for prayer, reflection and hymn singing at various places. The visit has been organised by the Chaplaincy for Agriculture and Rural Life. Chaplain Robert Barlow comments: “’Give us this day our daily bread’ is prayed every week in churches and God uses farmers as an answer to that prayer. However, as a society we are often cut off from agriculture and our picture of life on the farm is likely to be shaped by inaccurate portrayals in the media. This is an opportunity for people to understand what farm life is really like and thank God for all farmers give us.” At the end of the farm walk/ service people will be invited to stay at the farm for a pig roast. For more information or to attend the event, please contact Robert on 01886 821339 or rbarlow@cofe-worcester.org.uk.
