On Thursday 23 November, people from across the diocese received a certificate from the Bishop of Worcester at a special ceremony in Worcester Cathedral. In all, 95 people have completed the course, which was designed to help them relate their Christian faith to their own life and locality.
The Bishop’s Certificate course was completed in groups of between 6 and 15 people right across the diocese from Coseley in the North to Pershore in the South East with the help and support of 22 tutors. It covered subjects such as Christian faith and the Creeds, the Old and New Testaments, Pentecost and the Holy Spirit, discipleship and living as Christians with people of other faiths.
The Bishop of Worcester, the Right Revd Peter Selby, commented on the group’s achievements: “This is a challenging course and all those receiving certificates have worked hard throughout the past year to understand their faith and how it relates to their daily lives. It’s brilliant to hear that many of those involved are now planning to explore their Christianity further, for example through training for various kinds of lay ministry. This is a tremendous team effort by the tutors, and I congratulate all of those involved.”
The ceremony took place in the Cathedral Chapter House. It started with a drinks reception, which was followed by a short service during which the certificates were presented.
