The Bishop of Worcester is shedding his robes and donning his cycling helmet on Saturday 13 September to raise money for the Historic Churches’ Trust. He’ll be visiting as many churches as possible during the day and he’s challenging others to come and join him, either by getting on their bikes, shaking the dust from their walking boots or simply jumping on the bus. The Historic Churches’ Trust helps with the maintenance of the fabric of church buildings, some ancient, some comparatively modern, within the Worcestershire and Dudley area. The idea is for riders or walkers to obtain sponsorship, plan whatever route suits them, and set off. Bishop John comments: “We hope that all our Anglican Churches as well as many churches of other denominations will be open to visitors, so this is a great opportunity to take a look at somewhere you may not usually go. You should find a warm welcome and maybe even a drink or a biscuit to top up those energy levels. I’m hoping that I’ll manage to make it to a number of different parishes around my Worcester base.” Half the money raised by each individual goes to the Worcestershire and Dudley Churches Trust, the other half goes to an individual church named by the participant. If you would like to sponsor Bishop John, forms are available from Ron Hesketh at the Diocesan Office on 01905 732814. ENDS
The Diocese of Worcester is one of 44 dioceses in the Church of England. It covers an area of 671 square miles and includes parishes in the County of Worcestershire, the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley, and a few parishes in northern Gloucestershire, south east Wolverhampton and Sandwell.
